School Meals

School meals are cooked in our own kitchen on site by Orian Food Services and are attractively presented. Our aim is to achieve a calm and ordered lunchtime providing a caring environment for all the children and staff. We sit as a ‘family’ setting and the older children serve and look after the younger ones around their table. This way, all the pupils are encouraged to build their social skills, patience, responsibility for others and above all how to be a polite, well mannered individual. The teachers take a turn to sit with the children, it gives both the staff and pupils the opportunity to get to know each other better. After eating lunch the children go outside to play. Playtime uses a ‘buddy’ system for the Reception and Nursery children, this nurtures a feeling of responsibility for each other.

We use Orian’s system called School Hub to co-ordinate school meals. School Hub is an online ordering and payment system enabling parents to go online and order meals up to 2 weeks in advance. Parents can also pay for meals online, simply topping-up their balance when required. Infant (Reception to Year 2) meals are free. Nursery and Year 3 to Year 6 meals at present are £2.70 per day, £13.50 per week.

Free school meals are available if parents/guardians are receiving one of the following qualifying benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA)
  • An income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit, provided parents/guardians are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that as of April 2012 does not exceed £16190.
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit
