Class 4

Welcome to Class 4

Topic

Our topics are designed to include all areas of the National Curriculum. They have been planned to ensure a broad range of subjects and learning experiences but also draw on and adapt to the interests of the children.

Each term we aim to plan visitors and visits to further enhance the children’s learning in their topics.

Homework

The children in Class 4 work incredibly hard during each school day but we do ask you to support your child with any additional homework they may be given.

Reading

In Class 4 reading continues to be incredibly important as it underpins all areas of the National Curriculum. Consequently, the children are asked to read at least three times per week at home. Ideally, hearing your child read for 10 minutes daily would be hugely beneficial. The ‘Plumpton School Reading Race’ is currently encouraging more reading at home and is having a noted impact on the quantity and quality of the reading in our school. Keep up the good work!

Spellings

Each week your child will be given a list of 10 differentiated spellings to learn. The whole class will also be working on an additional 10 spellings from the statutory spelling list for Year 5/6.

Maths

Each week your child will be given a times maths challenge to be completed each night. This is designed to reinforce their recall of number facts.

Year 6

As we all know, Year 6 children must sit their SATS during one week in May. In preparation for this, the children will be given a mixture of reading comprehension, SPaG and arithmetic questions which are designed to reinforce their knowledge and understanding as well as giving them practise in answering SATS style questions.

If you have any questions or suggestions please don’t hesitate to come in and see me.
